From the Clan MacCool, Cindy
will be presenting a Sea Shanty Workshop (Click
here for more information)
The dread pirate "Willoughby
Caught" specializes in:
Singing, Mandolin, Octave Mandolin, Bodhran (Irish
Drum), and Irish Whistle. " I just love this
music," says Warner. "It makes me feel
happy and energized, and touches me deeply. There
is an emotional quality to ancient tunes that is
often not so apparent in more modern music."
This workshop is a bit
of musical fun and a fine beginning for what a good
pirate needs to know about pirate music and sea
chantys. This is a highly interactive workshop,
so be prepared to sing along and learn the choruses
of often sung heaving and hauling chantys. We will
also learn about the various types of worksong utilized
by sailors of the latter days of sail.
So come meet Willoughby
Caught (aka Cindy Warner MacCool), whose love of
life and performing are evident in this energetic
and musical presentation. Willoughby Caught is chantymaster
to Blackbeard's Crew in Hampton, Virginia, and owner
of Hysterically Correct Productions in Williamsburg.
She is humorous, creative ,and versatile in her
interpretation of traditional music of the sea with
a diverse knowledge of nautical music that spans
the centuries. She is also a singer of the Celtic
band ,Clan MacCool, who specialize in original arrangements
of traditional music and the Hysterically Correct

Christine Markel Lampe was "kidnapped"
by pirates in 1988 when a friend invited her on
a pirate cruise aboard a local tallship. Signing
articles, she joined the local pirate crew and thus
the character of "Jamaica" Rose Barton
was born. Fascinated by the history of the period
she started researching pirates. She and her husband
Michael (a notorious rogue captain she met on that
first cruise), took over the publication of the
pirate crew's newsletter, and began writing articles
on history, costuming, and persona. Later, this
spurred them on to create a magazine for and about
all pirates. Founded in 1993, No Quarter Given's
circulation has grown to include an international
readership, and has become known as THE Piratical
Clearinghouse. The two of them can often be found
selling their No
Quarter Given publications, her artwork, and
other pirate swag at faires, re-enactments, and
maritime events. They are also both founding members
of the Port Royal Privateers crew (also founded
in 1993). Christine has become known as a leading
authority on pirates and has been used as a technical
consultant for books, movies, and documentaries
(most recently seen as a commentator on True Caribbean
Pirates).
Christine will be speaking about "The True
Look of a Pirate" and "Pirate Stereotypes:
True or False." [Photo by Noelle Rose]

Michael Lampe was born into a Navy family and inherited
his father's love for the sea and all things nautical.
He spent his early years traveling the world with
his family. After serving in the military himself,
he headed north to Thule, Greenland for a few years,
before settling in Phoenix, Arizona. There he first
fell in with pirates - the Corsairs (an offshoot
of the Society for Anachronism). Later, he moved
to California, where he could sail on tall ships
and learn the arts of the sailor. There he met and
then married Christine; a lovely lass that he encountered
on his first Pirate cruise. They signed articles
with a local pirate crew, and took over publishing
the group's newsletter. In 1993 they helped found
a new group called the Port Royal Privateers. At
the same time, they founded a new magazine for all
those interested in piracy and privateering. Thus
No Quarter Given came about. Michael has had parts
in several movies and documentaries: Hook, Quest
for Captain Kidd, Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse
of the Black Pearl, True Caribbean Pirates, Real
Pirates of the Caribbean, and more. He builds and
repairs computers, still acts occasionally, and
co-edits and publishes No
Quarter Given magazine. [Photo by Noelle Rose]

Captain
Thom Bedlam is
landlocked awaiting repairs or another ship. Life
ashore has left him bored and bursting with tomfoolery.
Its a wild array of magical mayhem, the sharing
of vastly inaccurate knowledge and gregarious if
ineffective lessons on being a pirate. Its
the most fun youll have this side of Tortuga,
and gives you a whole new perspective for the saying
Id rather be sailing. Yo Ho! Not
so much memorable as it is hilariously traumatizing!
